Our Story
Born and raised in Beijing, the heart of traditional Wenwan culture, my childhood was filled with the rhythmic sound of walnuts rotating in palms—a background melody of the city I didn’t fully appreciate until years later.
My journey took me to the U.S., where I spent years immersed in the fast-paced world of professional design. In an industry driven by pixels and high-pressure deadlines, I found myself longing for something tactile, something grounded. I rediscovered the world of Wenwan—from the intricate textures of walnuts and the organic warmth of gourds to the quiet elegance of prayer beads, bamboo, and wood. I found in them not just a tradition, but a sensory sanctuary and a way to appreciate a living form of beauty. It was in the quiet ritual of "brushing" and "playing" that I found a way to reconnect with myself.
Why Banri ?
Banri (半日) was born at the intersection of my heritage and my aesthetic lens as a designer. The name comes from the Chinese poem: "Stealing half a day of leisure from a busy life." (偷得浮生半日闲)
As a designer, I’ve always believed that the objects we surround ourselves with shape our inner world. I created Banri to bring a refined, modern aesthetic to these ancient treasures. I personally hand-pick every unique piece, seeking a perfect harmony of form, texture, and character. For me, it’s about more than just a collectible; it’s about sharing a beautifully crafted ritual that helps you find stillness.
Whether you are here to start your own meditative ritual or simply to appreciate the raw beauty of natural craftsmanship, I hope Banri helps you "steal" your own moment of stillness.
